		<description>[...] We celebrate this day for the Convention on Wetlands that was created and adopted in 1971, in Ramsar, Iran (click here to read Ramsar&#8217;s Secretary General&#8217;s message for the 2012 World Wetlands Day). The day is an great opportunity to raise public awareness of the importance of wetlands. Not only do they sequester carbon (an important detail in light of our current climate change), but they also prevent and mitigate flooding (another detail worth noting on the wet coast, a place of many lost estuaries), improve water quality and provide habitat for nearly all animals at some point in their lives. It is time to show some support for these oft forgotten spaces. Our friends at the Fraser Valley Conservancy were kind enough to publish an article on our goals within the Wetlands Education Program and the work we are doing- please take a look!
